What will the end of days look like? If and when the rapture comes, what will it look like and how will people respond to this both tragic and glorious event? It’s something that has been discussed and debated for centuries. What will the end look like and how will this all play out? What happens to those who aren’t christians, those who remained on Earth because of their unwillingness to accept Christ? The Remaining explores these many topics in a horror/found-footage production that will completely change the way you look at the rapture and the following tribulation. The Remaining is a powerful and intense thriller drawing from horror films that have gone before but injecting a sharp Biblical angle into the narrative, creating a powerful Christian movie that will inspire you to live out your faith and stand against the devil and his many attacks. This independent film was a success in its theatrical run in 2014 and is now available on DVD for purchase. This is a film you will want to watch over and over as you relive all of the horrifying and intense moments found throughout the film.
After touring the set of another found-footage thriller movie, the director, Casey La Scala began to question what a worldwide spiritual catastrophe would look like. Remembering his theological background and thinking about how the rapture discussed in Revelation might play out, he began to wonder what the world would look like after a worldwide rapture. If millions of people across the world sudden disappeared (or mysteriously “die” as is depicted in The Remaining), what would that look like and how would those who remained handle the situation? How would the world be able to put themselves back together and continue? La Scala chose to up the ante by including visible and obvious spiritual elements in the film by depicting demons and fallen angels swarming down to earth to finish the job and end the race of humanity as they know it. La Scala worked hard studying the book of Revelation so he could make his film as close to the truth found in Scripture as possible. He wanted to create not only an accurate retelling of the rapture story, but one that would be intense, thrilling, and even moving. La Scala was able to blend elements of horror and thriller movies with the knowledge that we can gather through the BIblical book of Revelation and create and incredible movie that encourages the viewers to think on their own lives and discover for themselves what they truly believe. The Remaining is not merely a fun or entertaining watch. It is a film that will create genuine interest and concern in you as you begin to discover what you really believe. Is your faith where it needs to be? Are you ready?
In recent years, there have been a number of fascinating dispensationalism films and books released from Christian authors and creators that have asked them to take a look at the end times and what the last years and possible rapture may look like when it eventually comes. Authors like TIm Lahaye and Jerry B Jenkins helped popularize the idea of a rapture with their incredible successful book series Left Behind. This 12-part story epic tells the story of millions across the world disappearing. When it’s revealed that the one thing all these people had in common was the Christian faith, those who remain discover that they need to choose a side. With the antichrist quickly rising to power, they are about to experience 7 years of incredible pain and torture. This is when the whole world needs to make individual decisions for themselves -- are they on the side of Satan or the side of Christ? The Remaining will likewise encourage you to examine your own beliefs and help you determine whether you are really ready to face the end times. This will be a difficult and unbelievably trying time. Are you ready to face the challenges ahead? Is your faith in God?
The Left Behind series was certainly a catalyst in popularizing the rise of novels and films discussing the end times and what could happen with the rapture. There have been a number of other series that have taken various looks and angels at the dispensationalism idea including Revelation Road and The Mark. Whether you wholeheartedly agree with the idea of the rapture, or you’re still very much on the fence, these films and The Remaining in particular will be very helpful films in helping you get a perspective of what the world could be like and how it could end in the last years.

From here, the world begins to fall apart. Skylar and Dan are quickly forced to seek shelter and as they take refuge in a church nearby where they were when the rapture hit, they begin to analyze their lives and determine what they need to potentially change for their future. They begin to wonder if her parents could have been right. As they begin to contemplate faith and a future believing in God, they also realize that they may not have much of a future.
