Experience the Bible like you never have before. The fourteenth volume in the "That the world may know" series from Zondervan and Focus on the Family, The Mission of Jesus: Triumph of God's Kingdom in a World in Chaos, explores how Jesus' own life clarifies and portrays the mission and calling God has placed on all his followers. Travel with pastor and historian Ray Vander Lann across the ancient world and discover the Bible through new eyes. Discover how historical, geographical, political, and cultural contexts transform the Scriptures and inspire you to be a true follower of Jesus.

The Mission of Jesus: Triumph of God's Kingdom in a World in Chaos consists of five episode lessons, that are each approximately half an hour in length (total run time of approximately two and a half hours). This DVD continues the popular "That the World May Know" series by Ray Van Der Laan which has been a huge success as it has helped walk people through the Bible and helped them to understand the locations and settings where the bible took place.

Lesson One - Capernaum: Jesus Binds The Evil One

The first lesson in The Mission of Jesus: Triumph of God's Kingdom in a World in Chaos, titled "Capernaum: Jesus Binds The Evil One" focuses on Jesus' teaching ministry. Jesus, the hinge point of God's story, left heaven and was born in a dirty stable. Both man and God, he worked many miracles, and his heart for mankind touched many lives. It was in Capernaum, however, that large amounts of his teaching took place. In The Mission of Jesus: Triumph of God's Kingdom in a World in Chaos, viewers will travel with Ray Vander Lann to Capernaum and the Sea of Galilee. Using stunning imagery of these two locations as they appear today, as well as "flashbacks" so to speak, to Jesus' time, viewers will be introduced to Jesus' teaching. They will come to understand the effects of this teaching, as they come to understand the first-century context in which it took place. (Lesson one uses the following Scripture references as basis: Acts 10:28-28,̴Ì_Job 9:2-8,̴Ì_Jonah 1:1-6,̴Ì_Mark 1:21-28,̴Ì_Mark 4:35-41,̴Ì_Matthew 4:12-16,̴Ì_Matthew 12:22-29,̴Ì_Matthew 14:25-33,̴Ì_Psalms 107:28-29)

Lesson Two - Decapolis: The Other Side

"Decapolis: The Other Side- Jesus and the Man from the Tombs" is the second lesson in The Mission of Jesus: Triumph of God's Kingdom in a World in Chaos. Discover the difference in Jesus' ministry when he leaves the religious loving towns like Capernaum, and enters the very different world across the Sea of Galilee-- a world which embraced Caesar. Filmed at the Sea of Galilee and Hippos, the second lesson will once more bring the Bible to life through historical, political, and cultural contexts. (Lesson two uses Acts 10:15-15,̴Ì_Isaiah 65:1-99,̴Ì_Mark 4:35-41,̴Ì_Mark 5:1-20,̴Ì_Matthew 4:12-16,̴Ì_Matthew 8:28-34,̴Ì_Matthew 12:22-29 as references).

Lesson Three - Crucifixion: The Coronation of a King

In lesson three ("Crucifixion: The Coronation of a King") of The Mission of Jesus: Triumph of God's Kingdom in a World in Chaos, leave the world of the Israelites far behind and enter the land of the Romans. In the Roman world, if a people group was conquered it meant the gods of Rome were greater than those of the conquered people. Imagine the first century Christians trying to explain how their Savior and God had been tried, sentenced, and killed by an agent of Rome to this audience. Travel throughout Rome and Italy with Ray and some rabbis, as they unpack the Crucifixion through the eyes of a Roman audience. Come to see the Easter story from a new perspective and gain excitement once more. (Lesson three of The Mission of Jesus: Triumph of God's Kingdom in a World in Chaos is based upon the Scripture references of 2 Corinthians 2:14-14, Acts 25:10-11, Luke 2:1-1, Mark 15:16-39, Matthew 27:51-53).

Lesson 4 - Ascension: The King Takes His Throne

In lesson four of The Mission of Jesus: Triumph of God's Kingdom in a World in Chaos step once more into a historical and political context, as you discover what Jesus' ascension meant for the early believers. Travel between Jerusalem and Rome and discover the importance of some of the events immediately following Jesus' Resurrection. Understand the background to the clash between Christianity and the Roman world that would occur. (Lesson four is based on the Bible references Acts 1:1-99,̴Ì_Colossians 2:12-12,̴Ì_Daniel 7:1-14,̴Ì_Exodus 19:5-6,̴Ì_Luke 24:50-53,̴Ì_Matthew 27:51-53,̴Ì_Matthew 28:16-20).

Lesson Five - Pentecost: God Changed His Address

Lesson five of The Mission of Jesus: Triumph of God's Kingdom in a World in Chaos unpacks the importance and meaning of the Pentecost. Travel throughout Jerusalem, from the Temple Mount to the streets of the city. Visit the world that Jesus appeared to follow his resurrection. Come to understand the significance of the Pentecost in context with God's covenant with Israel, and understand a new chapter of the Bible like never before. ("Pentecost: God Changed His Address" uses 2 Chronicles 7:1-1,̴Ì_Acts 1:8-8,̴Ì_Exodus 19:5-6,̴Ì_Exodus 25:8-8,̴Ì_Luke 2:41-49,̴Ì_Mark 2:1-12,̴Ì_Mark 11:15-17,̴Ì_Matthew 5:34-35 as references.)
