Film Synopsis

In Puppy Love DVDMegan Nolan-- a single mom-- is ready for a new start on life. When she and her daughter Caitlin move to a new town, however, she soon has second thoughts. Ten year old Caitlin seems lonely, and is struggling to adjust. When Megan realizes the only friend her daughter has been able to make in their new home town is their neighbor's dog, she decides to let Caitlin adopt a shelter pet. She hopes it will help Caitlin cheer up and adjust. Her well thought out plan backfires, however, when Caitlin selects the biggest, shaggiest, sloppiest dog in the pound. Not wanting to back out on her promise, however, Megan allows Caitlin to take the dog home. A bad decision, she soon discovers as her beautiful new home is quickly left in shambles by the massive beast. Although Caitlin is the happiest since the beginning of Puppy Love-- enjoying the companionship of her dog named Jake-- Megan debates whether or not to return the havoc wrecking dog to the shelter. When handsome baseball player Ben Fuller (Victor Webster) shows up on her doorstep, however, her opinion quickly changes.

Ben Fuller is a handsome professional baseball player who loved only one thing more than his sport-- his dog Jake. He returns home one day, however, to find the gate accidentally left open by his absent minded roomate, and his beloved dog gone. Jake, as it is discovered in the film Puppy Love-- saw the open gate as an opportunity to explore the town. A decision that resulted in him being nagged by the dog catcher, sent to the shelter, and eventually winding up as Caitlin's beloved new pet. After much searching, Ben Fuller finally tracked his giant, shaggy dog to the home of Megan and Caitlin Nolan.

When Ben and Megan meet face to face on the porch, however, they immediately butt heads. Ben naturally wants his dog back, but Megan is not about to give up the one thing that has made her daughter happy (even if it has destroyed her home in one fell swoop). After seeing how much Caitlin loves his dog, however, Ben decides the two homes can share Jake. Joint custody so to speak.

Things go smoothly for awhile, but when Megan and Ben begin to fall for each other, things could get complicated once again. Will Megan be able to put aside her worries about Ben's future in baseball and learn to love again, or will Ben and Caitlin's happy days with their shared beloved pet Jake be over forever?

Family Friendly Puppy Love Film

Although not expressly a Christian film, Puppy Love DVDhas many family friendly themes throughout it. Compassion and kindness are a few of the themes that run throughout the film Puppy Love. Shown especially by the character Ben, compassion and kindness are tied throughout the film. When Ben realizes how much Caitlin loves his dog, his kind heart is touched, and he selflessly agrees to share his dog with her. He takes compassion on the lonely little girl, and strikes up a heartwarming friendship with her, hoping to cheer her up and make her feel loved.

Kindness is also shown by Caitlin toward the dog. Although her mother constantly complains and blames the dog for ruining their home, Caitlin lovingly cares for it, and defends its antics against her mother. Because she is younger Caitlin struggles with the idea of giving up her new found friend back to his rightful owner, but her just, kind, and selfless personality finally recognizes that would be the right thing to do. Puppy Love offers families the perfect opportunity to discuss character traits like compassion, kindness, and selflessness. Families can also discuss topics like doing the right thing even when it is difficult, using Caitlin and Ben for examples. They can also discuss the importance of not judging anyone (a person or a dog) from first impression or outward appearance, using Megan as an example. Parents can start discussions on making selfless good decisions in difficult circumstances, by asking their children how they would handle Ben's situation.

Filled with funny moments, a splash of romance, and a bit of baseball Puppy Love has something everyone can enjoy, whether young or old. Animal lovers will enjoy the relationship between Caitlin and Jake, and appreciate the subtle nod toward the importance of adopting shelter animals. Animal lover or not, however, anyone will love the humorous antics of the overly zealous but extremely lovable shaggy dog Jake. As he wrecks havoc across the city, viewers of all ages will not be able to do anything but giggle in their seats. With wonderful themes of compassion, kindness, selflessness, and acceptance, Puppy Love is not only an enjoyable film, but one that will reinforce positive lessons in the heart of any viewer.
