An Angel Next Door?
Olivia Mead (played by Izabela Vidvic) is a precocious, spunky girl who loves seeing people smile. Her favorite person is her single mom Melinda (played by Teri Polo) who is just as optimistic, friendly, and fun loving as her little girl, and together they star in Christmas Angel. There is only one thing in the entire world Olivia wishes she had--and that is a Dad. When Olivia's best friend Lucas Conroy (played by Tyler Humphrey) tells her that if you make a wish and throw a rock through the window of the abandoned house next door it will come true, Olivia begins to see an answer to her deepest desire. When Olivia makes a wish for a fellow classmate and sees it come true, they all begin to believe that the answer to all their wishes lies inside the mysterious abandoned house. They soon discover that a retired singer named Elsie Waybright (played by Della Reese) lives within the house, and after Olivia sees a blue light glowing in a window of the house at night, she soon thinks of her as the Christmas Angel. Windows are being shattered and wishes are being answered in the film Christmas Angel, but then the owner of the house Dr. Nathan Davis (played by Kevin Sorbo) shows up. Frustrated by the vandalized property, Dr. Nathan is about to put an end to the Christmas angel when Olivia's mom befriends him. As the two grow closer together the mystery of the house next door begins to unravel, and Olivia's wish for a Dad might be coming true-- but not the way she wants it. As the film Christmas Angel unfolds Olivia and her friends must learn an important lesson in trusting God to answer prayers, even when they come about in unexpected ways.
Blessings Come From God
Filled with plenty of laugh worthy moments, a bit of mystery, and a dash of romance Christmas Angel is a heartwarming holiday film the entire family can enjoy together. Not only is it an entertaining movie, however, but it is also a movie with a meaningful message. As Olivia and her friends start throwing rocks through the windows of the house next door, they start believing that the Christmas Angel can fulfill any wish they ever make. It is almost like a huge magic lamp, except instead of rubbing it you break a window. Olivia's mom must help Olivia understand, however, that God is the fulfiller of all our desires-- not angels or houses next door. Angels are simply messengers that come to tell us whenever God is about to do something good. The elderly lady who lives next door-- Elsie, the womanåÊwho the children mistake for the Christmas angel-- also helps the children understand that every good and perfect gift comes from above. Elsie must also help the children learn in the film Christmas Angel that sometimes God answers our wishes, or rather our prayers, in ways we do not understand. Take Olivia's wish for a Father as an example. We must all learn to trust God not only to fulfill our needs and desires, but to fulfill them in the way and timing that is best for his ultimate plan for our lives. The film Christmas Angel is a reminder that all blessings come from God, and even if we cannot see it as the answer or blessing we wanted we have to trust that in the long run that is what it will turn out to be.
As Olivia and the children begin to learn the lesson Elsie is teaching them, they come to understand that sometimes God uses other people to fulfill our needs. Throughout the film viewers will be reminded that generosity and serving other people are really God's blessings in disguise. As the children learn in Christmas Angel, serving others is a tiny bit like being a real life Christmas Angel.
Besides recognizing God as the source of our blessings, being reminded that sometimes blessings come in unexpected ways, and that serving others is one way to be a blessing, the film Christmas Angel also highlights the importance of kindness and compassion. Both Elsie and Dr. Nathan have never felt much kindness, and through the film Olivia and her mother discover that sometimes what the most unfriendly people need is someone who will be kind and someone who will listen. As they reach out in kindness to their new found friends, Olivia and Melinda are reminded of the blessing they already have-- each other. Family is the most important wish you could ever ask for.
From wishful window smashing, to smile filled cups of cocoa and everything in between the film Christmas Angel is filled with moments to make you laugh, smile, and remember the blessings God has given you. With powerful reminders and an inspiration to be a blessing in someone else's life, Christmas Angel is a holiday film that will not only entertain but will remind you where Christmas really comes from.
