The Christmas Pageant, a friendly and rejuvenating movie
The Christmas pageant is a pleasant and enjoyable film that the family can sit together and watch. We have Vera Parks, a famous headstrong Broadway director who is let go from her job due to being a tad too severe and not treating people correctly. Now she encounters some difficulty when looking for another job where she’s from since she was well known for her dominating nature. Nonetheless, an opportunity comes to her as a possibility for her to restore her notoriety. The opportunity comes from Ashton Falls, a small town near the city. For Vera it’s not an easy place to get used to since all she’s known is living in the big city. In the small town she finds that people are super amicable, life is quiet and simple and the theater is smaller than what she’s accustomed to.

She obtains a new employment in Ashton Falls, a town who is in the middle of producing their annual Christmas program. Since the show in The Christmas Pageant movie has remained the same for many years, Vera wants to do something different. Some of the things she plans to do is to have the classic Nativity display in shadow, utilize a star with better shiny material and in the case of the angels, discard their halos. Beverly (Kate Flannery), a woman who has been very much involved in the pageant for a while disagrees with Vera and thinks she has gone overboard with all the changes. Beverly defies Vera every time but later on Vera discovers the reason why Beverly has been stressed and agitated. An unhealthy announcement from her doctor.
Vera from The Christmas Pageant DVD meets and becomes friends with Kristen Harmon (Lennon Wynn), a little girl from the town. To her surprise Kristen’s dad is Jack Harmon, a guy she really liked and dated years back. His wife had passed away some time ago and even though she doesn’t want to admit it, Vera realizes she still likes him. Someone reminds Vera that even though she can reach the top of the mountain by herself that it’s nice to have someone to share that view with.
Little by little changes have been added to the pageant. Between the changes done to the show, we see Vera has hired a local man to be her assistant director since he showed her great potential. She has Anita, a young shy woman with a beautiful voice to participate on the show. Beverly and Vera learn to work together and form a good friendship. At one point before the opening of The Christmas Pageant, Vera receives a very good offer and she has to make a decision. She realizes she’s not the same woman that left New York and the small town of Ashton Falls has made a change in her.
The Christmas Pageant movie has brilliant subjects like second chances and the love and unity of a small town. A warm and fresh movie for the whole family. A beautiful holiday movie that reassures viewers to put away their discrepancies, to understand humbleness, and work as a group in unity. The characters from Ashton Falls like little Kristen, Garrett the host and others are kind-hearted. The town in itself is a character with it’s perfect environment out of a Christmas card. A very enjoyable Christmas movie with a great message about unification in the holidays.

Melissa Gilbert and her roots in Little House on the Prairie
To Melissa Gilbert from The Christmas pageant DVD, Little House of the Prairie was a huge part of her growing process. She started the series when she was just nine years old and finished when she was nineteen. The experience of playing Laura Ingalls shaped her life and her work ethic. She wouldn’t know who she’d become without playing that role and being in the show. Personally, it was a successful channel for the different emotions she would feel. The cast and crew were like a second family to her and shared very close relationships with them. She would play with the other kids on set but when it was time to shoot, they were all treated as adults. She was an adult giver to an artistic venture. It made her feel professional and great to contribute in that way. Melissa also learned so much about life and business from show leader and TV dad, Michael Landon. She is always proud to be linked to Little House on the Prairie for everything that it stood for but also for all the stories the show told. Very present with what was happening in their culture at the time.
