The Note

When a plane goes down off the shores of North Carolina there is only one thing left. A note, sealed in a plastic bag and washed by the waves onto the shore. Addressed simply to "T," it is up to struggling journalist Peyton Macgruder to discover who the intended recipient is. Along the way she discovers that mysterious note holds the opportunity for second chances not only for her, but for everyone she meets. From Hallmark comes an inspiring holiday film about life, loss, and second chances;̴Ì_The Note. Starring Genie Francis and Ted McGinley (Do You Believe? and Christmas With A Captial C).

A Mysterious Message

Life for Peyton Macgruder (played by Genie Francis) has never been easy, but it seems to be getting worse. The journalist is struggling to keep her job. It seems the readership on her column, Heart Healer, is down, way down, and she will lose her column and her job if things do not improve. Her boss challenges her to "write from the heart," but that is something Peyton has always struggled to do, and with her back against the wall and the clock (or at least her readership) ticking steadily downward, it seems even more daunting. Then the newspaper gets a call. It seems a plane has crashed somewhere off the coast of North Carolina and they need someone to cover the story. With nothing better to write about, the struggling journalist from The Note Peyton Macgruder manages to get the assignment. She thought it would be a pretty basic story, but all that changed when she visits the beach close to where the plane went down. Standing looking out to sea, Peyton notices something caught in the rocks near the shoreline. When she retrieves the object she discovers, much to her amazement, that it is a note carrying a message of hope and forgiveness from a father to his son, sealed in a plastic bag. Assuming it to be from a victim of the recent plane crash, Peyton, intrigued and inspired, is determined to deliver the note to its intended recipient. There is just one problem, however. The note is simply addressed to "T." Undaunted Peyton from the film The Note sets off on a quest to find the message's recipient, taking her readers along with her. She will soon discover, however, that the note will not only transform her own life, but it will transform the lives of everyone she meets. Will this be enough to find "T," or will the message remain a mystery forever?

It's About The Journey

A positive theme throughout the film The Note, is the reminder that sometimes it is not about the destination, it is about the journey. As Peyton the journalist attempts to find the mysterious "T," the intended recipient of the note, she discovers more about herself than she could have imagined. As she sees the way the note effects individuals across the nation, and as she meets new people she begins to see her own life changed by the message within the note. The Note is a wonderful reminder to viewers everywhere that sometimes the journeys are worth more than the endings, and the travels more than the destinations.

The Power Of Forgiveness

Another wonderful theme and message in the film The Note is the power of forgiveness. Inside the mysterious note Peyton discovered on the rocky shore of North Carolina is a heartfelt message of love and forgiveness from a father to his son; presumably the mysterious "T." As Peyton begins reaching out to individuals who could possibly be the mysterious "T," however, she begins to discover that this message of forgiveness is transforming the lives and hearts of everyone it comes in contact to. In the film The Note Peyton begins to realize that everyone is in need of forgiveness, and that everyone needs to forgive. She also comes to see that forgiveness is a powerful thing that can heal. It can change and transform lives through simple words. She comes to see that real love is truly forgiving and being forgiven, and she begins to understand the power forgiveness could play in her own life. Although not expressly a Christian film, The Note has themes that tie into faith, not the least of which is forgiveness. Just as Peyton discovers that she is in need of forgiveness, viewers can be reminded through the film that like Peyton we are all in need of forgiveness, and that God's forgiveness can (and does) transform lives for good.

Conclusion

At the shores of the sea Peyton finds a note that will not only save her job, but will transform her own life, and the many lives of the people she comes in contact with. As she searches for the elusive "T" she discovers that sometimes we learn more from the journey than we do at the end, and that the travels are often more valuable than the journey. She discovers that forgiveness has the power to transform lives, and that everyone is in need of forgiveness. A heartwarming film that will encourage viewers with a message of hope, inspire viewers with a reminder of forgiveness, and challenge viewers to write or say their own personal "notes," the film The Note will be enjoyed by viewers of all ages. As they watch Peyton unravel the mystery of the note, they will see the mystery of her own life be unraveled, and be reminded that no matter how far we have gone, God's forgiveness always has the power to transform lives.
