In the Blink of an Eye is a Christian film that is both thrilling and full of lessons. Released in 2009, this film was produced by Pure Flix Entertainment and stars David A.R. White and his wife Andrea Logan White. This film centers around the idea of the rapture, and what would happen if the rapture took place. The characters in this film are given many different chances to be ready for the Lord’s return, and this is shown in a unique and compelling way. This film was awarded the Dove Foundation seal of approval for families and has been touted by the Christian community as a movie that families will not want to miss. In the Blink of an Eye is fast-paced and packed with lessons about the grace of God and the faith it takes to truly be ready for his coming.
In the Blink of an Eye begins with two detectives on the police force, David and Larry. They have been put on the case of a famous pop star who has recently gone missing. Their mission is to find her and return her to safety. However, this task is difficult and dangerous and finds them heading in to a trailer park that has been abandoned. Anxiously, they search for the singer and encounter the kidnappers. This leads to a confrontation between the two detectives and the kidnappers, and David is shot by one of them.
A bullet aimed for David’s heart hits exactly where he keeps his cell phone, and this saves his life in a miraculous and fortunate way. Because his life is saved, he is able to kill the singer’s kidnapper and clear up the scene. The crime seems to be unraveled as far as Larry and David know, and they look forward to enjoying some rest. However, a man named Kevin comes to take the singer away, and Larry and David get a feeling that he is somehow connected to the kidnapping or a crime of some sort. Kevin informs the two detectives that he is going to be taking the singer on a yacht for a few days, in order to get away from it all. Wanting to investigate Kevin further, Larry and David are able to get themselves invited on this yacht trip. In the Blink of an Eye shows that there is much suspicion on Kevin, though they have no solid evidence against him.
David and Larry inform their wives that they are going to take them on a vacation, and don’t tell them about the possible danger surrounding this trip. They are unsure if Kevin is really connected to any of the crime that has been committed and do not want to worry their wives for nothing. The yacht trip seems to be going very smoothly, and the two detectives start to think maybe they are suspecting Kevin for nothing. However, David’s boss gives him a call and says that they discovered a picture of the kidnapper with Kevin, which casts more suspicion on him. Promising to investigate, David hangs up the phone. In the Blink of an Eye then finds Lori angry with her husband, David, because he has been very preoccupied the entire trip. She does not know that there is something much greater at stake and is disappointed by his lack of interest in their vacation.
However, his mind is on something much more important. In a somewhat dangerous move, David decides to confront Kevin about the photo. Kevin denies being in this photo and claims that he has nothing to do with the kidnapping. Meanwhile, Lori has been talking to Larry’s wife, Sue. Sue is a Christian and has led Lori to the Lord. She tries to share her newfound faith with David, but he does not want any part in it. In the Blink of an Eye depicts David as having a heart that is focused on work and somewhat hardened to the Lord. A great change has come over Lori, and David does recognize this. However, he is not willing to admit that this change could be the result of Christ at work within her heart.
Later on the yacht trip, David falls asleep and wakes up to find that Larry, Sue, and Lori have all disappeared. He is left alone on the yacht with the rest of the crew, including Kevin. Panicking, he realizes that he is the only one left who can solve this crime and find his family and friends. As the day comes to a close, David finds out more information that connects Kevin and the rest of the crew to the crimes being committed, and he realizes that he cannot handle this alone. He is still separated from his wife and his friends, and he becomes very worried. That night, he falls asleep and wakes up the next morning, only to repeat the exact same day once more. In the Blink of an Eye then shows the sequence of this day happening several times, as David goes to sleep and wakes up, caught in the exact same day.
Each time, he tries desperately to change the way things work out, but realizes that he cannot. It is then that he becomes aware of what simulation he is in—the rapture. Lori, Larry, and Sue are all Christians and he is the only one who is left unsaved. God is using this endless dream to grab hold of his heart and bring him to a close and personal relationship with him. Finally, David realizes that he is ready to commit himself to the Lord and the endless loop finally draws to a close.
In the Blink of an Eye uses the drama and suspense of police work, as well as the dramatic events surrounding David’s dream of the rapture, to drive home an important message about being truly ready to face Christ. This film will spark deep discussion among families and viewers who watch it together.
What was a perfect vacation becomes a horrific mystery when a detective's family disappears in the middle of the night. Join him as he unravels the mystery and discovers a biblical prophecy has come true in "In the Blink of an Eye"
I was expecting a somewhat borderline film, based on past experience. However, I was pleasantly surprised. The film had decent acting but more importantly it had a great message and the presentation of the storyline, although slow in spots, had me interested throughout the film. This is one of the first films from this studio that I have wanted to recommend and share with family and friends. I will probably give one to several close friends that would benefit from the message. Leigh (Posted on 10/18/15)
