Finding Noah

For hundreds of years civilization has searched in vain to find the remains of Noah's Ark. Now journey with a group of researchers, scientists, archaeologists, and explorers as they trek over 17,000 feet up Mt. Ararat in search of the missing ark. A powerful documentary Finding Noah will leave you on the edge of your seat ready for adventure.

The Film

The story of a flood fills the pages of history. From China to Norway to the Native Americans of North America a flood account exists in almost every culture. They all stem from one true account, recorded in the Bible. Starting with God's word a team of researchers, scientists, and archaeologists searched through pages of studies and failed attempts to locate the massive vessel before embarking on their own journey to find Noah's ark, documented in the film Finding Noah. The expedition-- a group of scientists, researchers, pastors, archaeologists, historians, and film men-- traveled to the widely accepted Mt. Ararat (the Biblical landing place of Noah and his family) located in Eastern Turkey. Not only is the mountain of Finding Noah a volcano (rest assured, it has been dormant for centuries) the location of the peak is a politically charged volcano ready to erupt. Filled with warring groups, the expeditioners must first navigate the political and social difficulties before they can even set foot on the mountain. Once they do, however, they must battle a new foe-- nature. Faced with rock falls, snowstorms, lack of oxygen, hidden crevices, glacial ice falls, and the ever possible danger of falling, the group from Finding Noah must press on if they hope to reach the summit. When they do, however, will they be able to drill and complete scientific discoveries without accident, and will they discover pitch like substance, wood, or remains of the famous boat? Finding Noah ties together interviews, scientific evidence, history of previous attempts to locate the ark, stories from around the world, and exciting footage from the expedition itself. Go on an incredible journey as you follow their paths and see their steps to finding Noah's Ark.

The Ark

The flood account found in Genesis chapters six through eight is one of the most highly contested pieces of God's word. Though it holds the answers to much of the world we see today, it is thrown away as a mere story by much of the scientific community. It is, however, like all of God's word, a true account, and it is this account that the explorers from Finding Noah based their search on. As the sons and daughters of man began to increase upon the earth, their wickedness increased also until "every inclination of the thoughts of their heart had become only evil all the time," (Genesis 6:5b). The Lord God was grieved and he decided to wipe out evil from the face of the earth, preserving only one man who remained faithful to his name, Noah. Noah was a righteous man, and lived with his wife and his three sons Shem, Ham, and Japheth. God instructed Noah to build an Ark (think really big boat) of cypress wood, large enough for his family and animals. Noah and his family would build the boat, God would provide the animals and the water. So Noah built the Ark despite intense ridicule by his neighbors and friends, all of which did not believe in the flood. Noah pleaded with them many times, but they would not repent and believe. When the Ark was complete Noah, his wife, his sons, and his sons' wives entered it with the animals-- seven of every clean animal and two of every other animal, male and female, birds, beasts, and every type of creature that moved on the ground. When Noah, his family, and the animals were safely inside-- as the film Finding Noah recounts-- God shut the door. Then it began to rain, the fountains of the deep burst forth, there was a lot of water everywhere. So much water that it covered even the tallest mountains to a depth of more than twenty feet (see Genesis 7:20)! Every living thing on the face of the Earth perished except those within the ark (and, you know, all the fishes and things that actually thrive in water. . .). The waters rose, flooded, and fell, but God remembered Noah and those with him in the Ark. Finally the Ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat. The rest, as they say, is history. (You can read the account of the flood in Genesis chapters six through eight).
