Fishflix: Brent Jr, thanks for answering a few questions. How do you describe Decoding the Future to folks unfamiliar with the project? What’s the “Elevator Pitch."
Brent Miller Jr: This is always tricky because much of what one could say about a new course on Revelation seems to be a cliché. Most commentators or authors claim their views are groundbreaking only to discover it’s just another collection of theories or personal views. We did not want Decoding the Future to be another one of these and went through painstaking lengths to present a non-denominational series purely based on verifiable discoveries in ancient Middle-Eastern Cultural anthropology and translation. I believe God blessed and guided this project, and what was released is exactly what He intended it to be. It’s not every day that you see a new series on Revelation that so many people worldwide, from different walks of life and denominations, agree is for once truly eye opening and life changing. Decoding the Future accomplishes exactly that.
Fishflix The materials online describing this DVD set imply that the approach to interpreting revelation taken in Decoding the Future is very unique and groundbreaking. Can you give us a preview of the unique approaches taken in this 7-disc set?
Brent Miller Jr:: It addresses the fact that we are 2,000 years removed from the culture that initially received the letters. Throughout the series, you’ll frequently hear the expression, what did THEY think, as appose to what do WE think. We sometimes forget that the United States is only five percent of the global population and so by default, our views are not exactly the Rosetta Stone for deciphering the depths of prophetic understand in these last days.
For example, in Revelation 3:16, Jesus said to the people in Laodicea that He wants them to be either hot or cold, but because they were lukewarm, He would spew them from His mouth. In our modern view, many of us have been taught that this means to be either hot, on fire for the Lord, or cold, reject the Lord, but don’t be a fence-sitter or a hypocrite because this is being lukewarm. This is clearly an American view, and one that the ancient world would never agree with or even understand. They didn’t think that way.
You’ll see the footage in the Decoding the Future series, that Laodicea was a city of wealth with aqueducts that carried in water from natural hot-springs miles away and there were also aqueducts that carried in cold water from the mountains in another direction. People at that time understood that running hot and cold water was fresh, had different purposes and was safe to drink or bath in. Lukewarm water on the other hand meant it had been sitting stagnant; filled with bacteria and would possibly kill whomever drank it.
What Jesus was saying is that Laodicea’s actions, worship and deeds were good for nothing. Their intentions were stagnant and their form of Christianity was deadly to others so he spews, or vomits, them from His mouth.
This seems to paint an entirely different picture that what many of us learned at church and not only teaches in more depth how we should live, but also how serious our heart’s intentions are in the eyes of God. This was the kind of stuff that everyone in the ancient world just understood. Wait until you get deeper into Decoding the Future, it’s going to shock you.
Fishflix How do you respond to Christians who don’t give much thought to understanding the book of Revelation? How would you respond to a Christian who says “it’s all too confusing, we know that God is victorious in the end and that’s what’s important?”
Brent Miller Jr: We hear this all of the time. The idea that Revelation is confusing or open to interpretation are ideas that have penetrated Christian communities and churches from years of deliberate deception, and misinformation. It’s important to remember that Revelation was never meant to be cryptic or ambiguous and by saying it’s open to interpretation, would be saying that God doesn’t know what He means or what He’s talking about. The problem isn’t how Revelation was written, it’s us.
Without a doubt, the people that first received these writings understood it entirely. So many modern day sources teach Revelation from the viewpoint of theory or as a standalone book without addressing the hundreds of references it made to the old Testament. Revelation is far more about why something happens rather that “the what”, and our Western society is so focused on “the what” that we miss the entire point.
Yes, we know that God is victorious in the end, but we were given prophecy for a reason and it’s something that God considers to be very important for us since more than twenty-five percent of the Bible consists of it. Not only that, but we are told to know the signs and be prepared. How can one be prepared if they don’t know what the signs are according to how God intended us to receive and understand them?
As previously mentioned, there is deception about Revelation being complicated or open to interpretation that is turning Christians away from studying it. Don’t fall for that. Didn’t Jesus chastise the Pharisees during His first coming for not knowing the signs of His arrival? Let’s not make that same mistake again. In the case of Revelation, accurate understanding could help you discern and avoid global deception which can attack your faith and weaken your effectiveness as one that should be spreading the gospel.

I thought the Book of Revelation was the most difficult book to understand but that is not true! This course takes you step by step visually from the first chapter to the last explaining the passages in an “Indiana Jones” type format! The host provides short concise explanations in a university setting and then you are taken to those places in the world that are being discussed. Wow! What an eye opener! Other theologians and experts are brought in when various different opinions about a particularly important topic is being presented. This short 10-hour presentation is unlike anything I’ve ever seen before and has truly opened my eyes as to what is coming and why. It is truly a journey that opens your heart and allows you to see events unfolding as never before possible as they happen. The cinematography is also breath-taking as you are shown things and places that you’ve never seen before. There wasn’t a boring moment and once we started the set, my family and I couldn’t stop watching the DVD’s which left us speechless. I recommend this course to everyone I know. The information is so important everyone should see this. (Posted on 5/10/16)
