DOCUMENTARY RAISES QUESTIONS ABOUT
THE RISE OF COMMUNISM IN AMERICA
On January 9th, 2008, Idaho state representative, Curtis Bowers wrote a letter to the editor about changes he’d observed in American culture and a successful agenda he saw being deployed to impose socialist and even communist thought, ideals and practice upon America. While he did expect a response, he didn’t expect a state-wide controversy that put him on the evening news and on the radar of the national media. He realized that he’d hit on an issue that needed to be probed more deeply.

Curtis Bowers spent the next two years tracing the influence of communist thought from its founders and chief proponents of the past like Stalin and Marx through a complex matrix of connections leading to today’s movers and shakers in politics, social action, the media and even the Church.   What he discovered was not a conspiracy, because conspiracies are meant to be hidden, rather, he found a well-documented agenda to grind America down by sabotaging the family, business and culture.

Agenda, the documentary that won the “Best in Festival” at the 2010 San Antonio Independent Christian Film Festival, contains powerful evidence showing that modern politicians have been moved so far to the left of the political continuum, that today’s “conservatives” think like yesterday’s “liberals” and today’s “liberals” can only truthfully be categorized as “socialists.”

Agenda is not a “fun” movie to watch, and frankly is quite disturbing, but the data and views in this documentary must be considered as Americans go to the polls this November.

Lost Boy: The Next Chapter was featured in MovieGuide.  The Review is below.

THE LOST BOY: THE NEXT CHAPTER Content

(CCC, BBB, Pa, FR, V, S, N, AA, DD) Extremely Christian worldview, with very moral content and some discussion of sex, substance abuse, promiscuity, Eastern mysticism, and divorce, all resolved by the coming to Christ story; talk about fights and protagonist’s mother being knocked unconscious by one of several husbands; two brief shots of upper male nudity at 1960s rock concerts in newsreel footage and partial upper male nudity in a photo; brief discussion of a bout of drunkenness; brief discussion of the 1960s drug culture; and, nothing else objectionable.

THE LOST BOY: THE NEXT CHAPTER Summary:

LOST BOY: THE NEXT CHAPTER is a fascinating documentary about how Pastor Greg Laurie became saved during the Jesus Movement of the late 1960s and grew to become one of the most popular Christian evangelists today. LOST BOY is an extremely well made documentary that captures the viewers and makes us laugh and cry, while presenting the Gospel of Jesus Christ in an extremely winsome, appealing, intelligent way.

THE LOST BOY: THE NEXT CHAPTER Review:

LOST BOY: THE NEXT CHAPTER is a fascinating documentary, especially for those of us who lived through the 1960s and who were part of the Counter Culture.

Greg Laurie’s mother was a lost soul. She went through four divorces before she was 25 and continued to run out of one marriage after another. Her son, Greg, now an evangelist, grew up looking for love in all the wrong places. He used his cartooning talent to put psychedelic messages into the high school newspaper at Corona Del Mar, Calif. However, after transferring to another high school, against his better judgment, he got roped into a high school Bible study and came to Christ. As a result, he threw away his drugs, started attending church and eventually became a powerful evangelist and a significant pastor.

LOST BOY is an extremely well made documentary. It captures the viewer’s heart and mind and makes us laugh and cry. It gives a very accurate portrait of the 1960s and presents the Gospel of Jesus Christ in an extremely winsome, appealing, intelligent way. The music is very well placed. The movie’s presentation of the history of the Jesus Movement in the late 1960s and early 1970s is fascinating.

Greg Laurie’s personal odyssey is an important testimony of how God can reach the least of these, and the death of Greg’s son will capture your heart. MOVIEGUIDE® highly recommends LOST BOY.

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; all things have become new.”

- 2 Corinthians 5:17

Preacher and Evangelist Greg Laurie of Lost Boy spreads message of Hope in Southern California

RIVERSIDE, Calif., August 9, 2010--“Hope” was the central message of the 21st annual Southern California Harvest Crusades with Greg Laurie this past weekend, August 6 – 8, and the theme clearly struck a chord with Southland residents as more than 118,000 people packed out Angel Stadium of Anaheim over three nights, many of whom came seeking spiritual answers.

The Harvest Crusades with Greg Laurie have been a mainstay in Southern California since 1990, and have drawn more than 4.1 million people to evangelistic outreach events around the world. The 2010 Southern California Harvest was hosted by more than 300 local churches and supported by more than 6,000 volunteers.

Drawing from his own experience of grief and loss over the death of his son Christopher in 2008, Riverside, Calif. pastor and evangelist Greg Laurie told the audience gathered at the Harvest Crusades each night about the hope they could find in a relationship with Jesus Christ. In an interview with The Orange County Register, Laurie said, “I still experience great pain and deep sorrow – I probably will for the rest of my life. But I’ve also found great comfort through Christ, and it’s a message I want to share with people who are hurting.” (August 5, 2010)

This message of hope culminated on Sunday with a first-of-its-kind program called, “An Evening of Hope,” where a capacity crowd of 48,000 people gathered at Angel Stadium to hear Laurie discuss issues of pain, suffering, and loss with psychologist and author Dr. James Dobson and Grammy Award-winning musician Steven Curtis Chapman, who experienced the death of his youngest daughter, Maria Sue, two years ago.

Addressing the pain of loss that eventually everyone will go through, Laurie asked the crowd, “Why do bad things happen? The answer is this.” After a pause he said, “I don’t know. But as Christians, we do not sorrow as those who have no hope because we will see our loved ones again. If you are a Christian, you are reassured by that hope.”

Chapman later added, “God restores and redeems what he takes away. There are no words for the pain of loss, but our hope is in the resurrection. Emmanuel, God is with us.”

Chapman and MercyMe took the stage to perform music that reflected the theme of the weekend, and as he did each night of the Harvest Crusade, Laurie concluded the Sunday evening program with an invitation for those in attendance to walk onto the outfield of Angel Stadium to put their faith in Christ. Over the course of weekend, 11,789 people did just that.

In addition to performances from Steven Curtis Chapman and MercyMe, the 2010 Southern California Harvest also featured music from David Crowder Band, Crystal Lewis, Phil Wickham, Sanctus Real, OC Supertones, Revive, and The Katinas.

Apart from the crowds gathered at Angel Stadium, people from 47 countries around the world watched the 2010 Southern California Harvest live, with 290,000 connections made to the live Harvest HD webcast – more than double the previous record for cyber attendance. In addition, 768 webcast viewers filled out online cards indicating that they prayed with Laurie to make a commitment of faith. Each evening of the Harvest Crusade is archived and available for viewing at www.harvest.org.

Video podcasts and blog accounts of each message were also made available at http://blog.greglaurie.com/, as well as “behind the scenes” updates from Greg Laurie on Twitter at http://twitter.com/greglaurie and on Facebook. And, for the first time, Harvest implemented a texting feature that allowed cell phone users to receive updates about the Harvest Crusade throughout the weekend.

Greg Laurie, who founded the evangelistic Harvest Crusade events in 1990, also serves as senior pastor of Harvest Christian Fellowship in Riverside, Calif., one of the largest churches in the U.S.

During the past 21 years, the Harvest Crusades have drawn some 4.1 million people to events in the U.S., Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Laurie also serves on the board of directors for the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and Samaritan’s Purse.

2010 Harvest Crusade events are also scheduled for Chicago (Allstate Arena, Sept. 24 – 26) and Seattle (Key Arena, Nov. 5 – 7).

LOST BOY AT 2010 GIDEON MEDIA ARTS CONFERENCE

The Lost Boy film was honored again, this time at the 2010 Gideon Media Arts Conference and Film Festival in Asheville, North Carolina.  Lost Boy was among only a select few faith-based films which are invited to be shown at this very unique event, which incorporates accomplished films with seminars designed to set the mark for excellence in Christian media arts.   There was no “competition” here; Gideon’s invitation for Lost Boy to be featured was an honor in itself.   The member of the Harvest team at Gideon, Gary Zelasko reported that many people approached him over the course of the conference to tell him how powerful and encouraging the film was.

Lost Boy is enjoying a renaissance of sorts as it is also up for an award at the 2010 International Christian Film Festival in the UK in August.  This is another high profile film festival, as the event patron is actor Anthony Hopkins.  In addition, the Lost Boy DVD will be released in a number of Christian Bookstore Association bookstores on July 9, 2010.  It’s great to see the Lord continue to use Lost Boy to get the Gospel out and impact people through this film.
