Join us on the Christian Movie podcast as we take a look at the new Christian Comedy Mom, Murder, and Me. This is a new release 2016 Christian movie with a lot of humor and a lot of heart, making it one of the best Christian DVDs of 2016!

Welcome to The FishFlix.com Christian Movie podcast. Every Wednesday we review a Christian film, informing you about the story, production quality, and family friendliness. Our goal is to bring you all the latest news and insights on Christian movies and recommend wholesome films for you to watch together as a family. I’m your host Noah Metzger and today we’ll be reviewing Mom, Murder, and Me, an exciting new movie from Shadow Angel Films starring Sarah Klaren, Kathy Garver, and Olando Graves.

What does it take to admit your overprotective mother is right?

Annabel, young and free-spirited living in San Francisco, faces this awful truth when her mother, Joan, unexpectedly visits from her small Midwestern hometown. When Annabel’s elderly neighbor passes away, Joan insists it’s murder.

Annabel dismisses the theory as Joan’s usual hysteria about big city living until Annabel herself stumbles across another body right before it disappears. Without evidence for the police, Annabel blunders through a comical investigation with Joan as her only ally and a murderer who may be on to their amateur sleuthing.

Mom, Murder and Me is releasing on our website on August 1st, 2016 and tells the story of an overprotective mother, a mysterious murder, and a young woman caught in the middle of everything and unsure how to proceed. If you’re interested in finding out more about this film after our review, it will be available soon on our website at www.fishflix.com.

This is an interesting film, and while I wasn’t really sure what to expect from the title, it’s all around a fun film with a family-centered message. In the story we have Annabel, a young girl living on her own in San Francisco trying to live her life away from her overprotective mother. She enjoys the big city and has her own life there, which she’s perfectly content with. However, her mother pays her a visit as a surprise for her birthday and begins to confuse her life and plans. Her mom finds out about all of the many scary things that go along with living in the big city and she begins to grow worried for her daughter.

The film takes a surprising and interesting turn after an unusual death, which the mom, named Joan, insists is a full-out murder, much to the chagrin and disbelief of the police officers. But more evidence begins to stack up that may just prove her right. I wasn’t sure what to expect from this movie going in, whether it would be a mystery or a comedy or a drama. And as it turns out, it’s really all three tied up into once. At its core it truly is a comedy as Annabell and her mom go on a hilarious investigation to try and gather more evidence for this supposed murder. The film finds them in a number of goofy circumstances which are played up for comedy’s sake including sneaking into a mob boss’s office, trying to stealthily sneak out of a hospital under fake nurse and patient disguises, and several other hilarious moments that make this film a true comedy.

But it also has a lot of heart and in the end teaches an important lesson about family and the never-ending love of mothers. Her whole life, Annabel hated her mother’s overprotective nature, but as she begins to bond with her mom, she begins to realize that it’s all because her mom loves her and wants what’s best for her. It’s an important lesson a lot of people can learn from and it’s an encouraging movie that reminds us to not shun our parents or ignore them. Family is always important and it’s vital that we always work together and learn to overcome our differences. We’ll never have closer friends in our lives than our own family and they’re the people that will always be with us through the good times and bad. This is an encouraging reminder and that’s what makes it such a great family film.

There’s also elements of romance and drama as there is a fun relationship subplot throughout the movie that I enjoyed. Overall, the movie works well together as a whole and has a good focus and execution. The acting was great for the most part, and the overall production quality was really good. This is the first film to be released from Shadow Angel Films and I look forward to seeing what they do with their next film. It will be interesting to see if they stick with this unique comedic drama style or if they decide to vary into something else. Whatever they do, I look forward to seeing more from them!

Mom, Murder, and Me has a few thematic elements and a few minor instances of language. There are also a couple of minor violence sequences involving guns and some of the aftermath of murder. We always like to follow The Dove Foundation which has given it a “family-approved” rating for ages 12 and over. But as always, we recommend that you watch the film first and decide if it’s appropriate for your particular family.

Now, we’d like to know what you think. Have you seen this movie and would like to let us know your thoughts? Maybe you’d like us to review a certain movie, or have a question or comment.
