Johnny

He will not ever get to grow up. You see, Johnny is slowly dying of Leukemia. But despite that, he remains a happy, hopeful boy. He has one dream to have a real family before he dies. Dr. Drew Carter and his family are struggling to come to grips with the death of their son. When God brings these two together a heartwarming story of love and redemption ensues. From Pure Flix Entertainment comes Johnny. Starring Lee Majors, Mel Fair, Jerry Philips, and Musetta Vander.

The Story

Johnny (played by Jerry Philips) has never had an easy life. He's barely more than a kid, and he has already lost his mother to a drunk driver and fallen victim to Leukemia. But, the dying foster kid maintains a cheerful, hopeful attitude, grounded in his faith. After all, as he says, isn't God awesome? In the film Johnny, he has one hope before he dies, and he is sure that God will bring it about. He wants to be part of a loving family before he dies.

Dr. Drew Carter (played by Mel Fair) is watching his family slip away. They were once a happy foursome. Drew, his wife Julia (played by Musetta Vander), their daughter Kayla and son Robby. Life was good. Life happened. And then it all suddenly ended. When the ten-year old Robby dies in a car crash. Devastated and blaming herself for her son's death, Julia checks out of life, leaving Drew and Kayla feeling like they have lost not only a son and brother, but a mother and wife as well.

That's when, in the film Johnny, their paths cross. When Dr. Miller (played by Lee Majors), Johnny's doctor, introduces the two, Drew sees a chance to heal his family and love a dying child. Julia, however, is viciously opposed to bringing a dying child into her home. But as she grows more distant from her daughter and husband, Drew decides to take matters into his own hands. So, as the film Johnny shows, Johnny goes home to a real family at last.

Jonny does not know why this family would adopt him for his last few years or months or weeks on earth, but he is convinced that God has a special mission for him. Now, can Johnny help heal the Carter family before he too is called to heaven?

Sharing Sensitive Themes With Compassion

The film Johnny deals with heavy and difficult themes. Yet, the makers of Johnny breathe hope, healing, and a larger story of redemption into a film that deals with heartbreaking issues. In fact, the film Johnny approaches these themes with grace, compassion, and sensitivity, while helping viewers focus on the larger eternal perspective.

Forgiveness

A theme that is beautifully woven throughout the film Johnny is that of forgiveness. Sometimes in the darkest moments of our lives we can struggle to forgive ourselves. We can place blame, we can wrestle with the big question of What if. We can load the pain and suffering squarely on our own shoulders. This is what Julia struggles within the film Johnny. This film, however, is a beautiful reminder that in those moments God wants to take all the pain, heartache, misunderstanding, frustration, and blame and replace them with his forgiveness. Johnny is a reminder that even in the moments when we cannot seem to forgive ourselves, God forgives us. God will never walk out, he will always remain faithful. He will always forgive no matter what. The film Johnny is a reminder that in the most difficult of times God can use the things and people we least expect to heal and restore our broken hearts. To remind us that he forgives and that peace can be found from him.

Eternal Perspective

The film Johnny also has the wonderful theme of eternity woven throughout the plot. As Johnny recognizes, life can be short, but salvation is everlasting. The struggles, the pain, the heartache of this life are so small when compared with the great picture of eternity. As Johnny reminds viewers in the film, death is not the end. There is no end when we believe in Jesus, and one day there will be no more disease, no more loss, no more tears, no more pain, no more heartbreak. One day we will be with Jesus forever and he will bind up all our broken pieces and wipe away every tear. The film Johnny is a powerful reminder to viewers of all ages that if we keep an eternal perspective, there can be hope even in the midst of tragedy, and joy in the midst of weeping.

Conclusion

As Julia struggles to forgive herself after the death of her son, viewers will be reminded that God is always faithful. He will always forgive. And he longs to replace our tears with his perfect peace. As Johnny waits to return home to his Heavenly Father, viewers will be challenged to view this life in the light of eternity. To keep the struggles of this life in the perspective of the cross and the glory of heaven. As Drew opens up his heart and home to a dying child, viewers will be encouraged to love on those who may seem unlovable. To open your heart to love those that need it most, even when it is difficult. The film Johnny will encourage, challenge and inspire viewers with messages of salvation, redemption, forgiveness, love, second chances, and eternity. Rejoice as a dying boy and a heartbroken family find hope and healing when God brings them together.
